Southern Christian Leadership Conference

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference (SCLC) is a nonprofit interfaith advocacy organization that was a key organizer during the civil rights movement and the Montgomery Bus Boycott of 1955 when Rosa Parks was arrested for refusing to give up her seat to a white man on the bus. The Boycott ended with the desegregation of the Montgomery bus system in 1956.

With a mission to advance economic justice and eradicate racism, the SCLC continues to organize and take action nationally and internationally on urgent social justice, civil rights, and human rights issues, especially those impacting Black communities and communities of color.

As a member of Let’s Talk Autonomous Driving, the SCLC is committed to advancing dialogue around how autonomous driving technology could improve road safety for the most vulnerable, including pedestrians of color who suffer a disproportionate rate of fatalities.

We are also committed to working to ensure that autonomous driving lives up to its promise to expand mobility options for those cannot drive, such as people with disabilities and the blind. It is our belief that it could also help expand and connect transit systems in order to improve access to school and work, thereby advancing economic justice.
