We are happy to share the news that Support for Families of Children with Disabilities, a San Francisco-based nonprofit, has joined Waymo and other local and national organizations as a part of the Let’s Talk Autonomous Driving partnership.
Support for Families provides peer-to-peer support for families of children with any kind of disability or special health care need.
The group adds another crucial perspective to a growing list of partners – from national safety and transportation advocates to local nonprofits and direct assistance organizations – which share a vision that fully autonomous driving technology has the potential to expand mobility and independence while improving traffic safety.
“Much of our work at Support for Families aims to provide resources and guidance that will help individuals live an independent and fulfilling life. Transportation can be seen as a barrier towards independence for many individuals living with disabilities. We are very pleased to be building this important partnership with Waymo to allow transportation to be seen as a benefit instead of a challenge.” -Rachel Klegon, Program and Grants Director
Waymo has intentionally worked to build an inclusive partnership by centering the perspectives and supporting the efforts of organizations like Support for Families.
Waymo was proud to sponsor Support for Families’ 2021 Access to Adventure program, a month-long series of online events and activities for families. Waymo also partnered with Support for Families to raise awareness during Brain Injury Awareness Month this year.
